On the north west coast of the Zakynthos island you will find Shipwreck Cove or Smugglers Cove also called Navagio Beach. Known for its crystal clear water, amazing view and white sandy beach the picturesque Navagio beach is considered to be one of the world’s most beautiful and popular beaches and can only be accessed by boat, but is well worth the trip.
BLUE CAVES
The wild white-coloured rocky landscape together with the calm crystal clear blue water, create a beautiful contrast that leaves you speechless. The shape of the rocks together with the caves and the natural “tunnels” makes that place very unique.
The best time to visit Blue caves, is in the morning or noon, when the light of the sun diffracts into the water and paints the sea with amazing white and blue colours.
BYZANTINE MUSEUM
It is in D. Solomos square, the largest and most charming of the island, that after the havoc of the earthquake in 1953 is now getting back to its original charm. The special importance of this museum is eventually due to the opportunity that the tourist has to appreciate the pictures and plastics reproducing the city before the earthquake alongside the artistic evolution from the post Byzantine period to the contemporary Greek art.
XIGIA BEACH
Xigia is a natural health resort beach in the northeast of the island just 24km north of Zakynthos town. It is located in a very beautiful little bay and is visited daily by many tourists. Xigia has smooth white pebbles instead of sand and transparent blue water and it is known as a natural sulfur spa because of the sulfur springs surrounding it. The water has healing properties as it contains lots of collagen so it’s a great reason to spend more time in the water!
TURTLE ISLAND
MARATHONISI
The small islet is situated in Laganas bay and provides one of the nesting homes for the loggerhead turtle Caretta Caretta. Its turtled-shape formation has evoked a number of myths over the years one of which is that it was carved by the ancients in honour of the visiting creature! Restrictions for visiting the islet are imposed by the National Marine Park in order to protect the nesting grounds in the area. The islet is surrounded by crystal clear deep waters and rich vegetation.
